See also our Windsurf Instructor Pro Traineeship which matches the Basic course and follows it with six weeks of post-qualification professional development. We also offer Dinghy Sailing/Windsurf Basic and Pro Traineeships, which combine windsurfing with dinghy sailing - or check out the Surf/Windsurf/Lifesaving combos.
The first two weeks of the Windsurf Instructor Basic Traineeship provide intensive foundation training including personal performance coaching and first aid. The next two weeks are the core of the skill-building programme. You windsurf every day under the guidance of expert coaches, who guarantee to improve your performance on the water.
Finally you enter two weeks of instructor training, focusing on the coaching skills needed to inspire beginners. You will develop an imaginative approach to teaching safe and efficient windsurfing, as well as the theory that underlies it. We make sure you have time to learn and practise the necessary techniques before being examined.
To gain the instructor qualification you will need to demonstrate RYA Intermediate Non-planing windsurfing ability, good communication skills, an understanding of RYA training, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.
The Traineeship takes place at Balmoral Windsurfing, our specialist centre on Sydney Harbour. For more information on the training location and our accommodation at Queenscliff and Manly, use the Destinations link above left.
