4 hrs (taught in two 2 hour sessions) is a great introduction to windsurfing and allows you to come and learn the basics out on the water.
OVERVIEW – The course is designed as a taster to windsurfing, to get you out on the water as quickly as possible under the close supervision of our qualified instructors.
OUTCOME – The course will allow the participants the freedom of windsurfing in our supervised area on completion.
PRE-REQUISITES – This is a taster course so there are no pre-requisites.

8 hrs (taught in two 4 hour sessions) this course is designed to provide a safe introduction to windsurfing for novices. The course will allow participants to be fully confident to enjoy the freedom of windsurfing in light winds. By the end the aim is to sail safely around a triangle course.
OUTCOMES – You will receive a basic skills 1 certificate and have a basic understanding of windsurfing
PRE-REQUISITES – This is the starting point – there are no pre-requisites
WHERE NEXT? – Continue on to the basic skills 2 course
SYLLABUS
• Launching, starting and Landing
• Sail across the wind on both tacks (direction)
• Power control and stopping under control
• Steering
• 180 turn and tacking
• Basic rigging
• Rules of the road
• Self rescue options
• Points of sailing, the no go zone and how to sail upwind, theory behind steering
• Assessing sailing conditions

8 hrs (taught in two 4 hour sessions) this course is designed to consolidate the experiences and knowledge gained in the basic skills 1 course. On completion of the course you will be expected to safely sail in up to 8 knots of wind.
OUTCOMES – You will receive a basic skills 2 certificate and have will have improved windsurfing techniques
PRE-REQUISITES – Basic skills 1 or equivalent experience

4 hrs (taught in two 2 hour sessions) Balmoral Sailing School offers stronger wind tuition for those who want to take the next step in windsurfing. Participants should have some experience of sailing in stronger winds and be looking to have an introduction into the harness and footstraps.
OUTCOMES – You will be capable of sailing in at least 15 knots of wind.
PRE-REQUISITES – Basic skills level 2 or equivalent

• Harness – hooking in and out and stance when in

• Sailing on all points of sail using harness and footstraps
• Tacking and gibing in stronger winds

• Weather – interpretation of a weather map, high and low pressure systems
